Rombauer Wine

Rombauer WineWhat is the protocol when the wine you order is not spoiled, but not as you expected?

I went to a restaurant and ordered a wine off our beaten path - '04 Rombauer Zinfandel. Expected Type of Zin, but what we received was so sweet, almost tasted like a dessert wine. Is there a protocol for this (other than talking to the waiter in advance of the order), or should we simply chalk to a wrong decision and live with it?

When you order a wine "off the beaten track" at the restaurant, you take a risk you can not do that. This is a good sommelier will try to get an idea of your tastes in wine and as you advice on matching food and wines with the courses you have ordered.

If the sommelier choose something for your party, and there really is not very good, then it may be a stronger argument for them to offer an alternative and no charge for the first bottle.

However, if a wine you have chosen and there is no evidence of spoilage or cork taint, so I think you're stuck with the decision.

It's always a good idea to limit the potential risk if you try something familiar. A restaurant with a large under-glass menu is a good option. Better yet a wine and tapas bar that offers a wide selection by the glass as well as snacks and small dishes for the coupling size.

Anyway, too bad for your Rombauer be an inexpensive way to know that you do not like their style of Zin. Better luck next time.

Cheers!

You could say something sommelier when they came back, politely saying "Is it supposed to taste that sweet?" If the waiter said yes, it has notes of this and that, then I suck and that c ' Interestingly, being nice.

However, a good sommelier is often proud of their service and the pairings and could replace him and got more than you have something more to your taste

The reason does nothing in reality. You must mention the fact that wine is not to your taste for personal service after your first sip.
More than likely, they will be working on something to exchange with you but is not guaranteed. But their tips rides on your satisfaction and most will be on your side more than houses. And if they do take care of her, be kind enough to show some understanding at the end of the meal.
