Residential Alcohol Treatment Centers

Friends of mine have an adult child who has been through drug rehabilitation and alcohol short term (2 weeks to 30 days) treatment, only to relapse. It needs a longer term treatment to address the psychological problems associated with addiction, but like millions of other Americans, he has no insurance.

Is anyone aware of any long-term treatment centers that can help?

Having just had a bit of heart at once with what I know it can be incredibly difficult. I know there are programs in Southern California that are long term - I think called the sobriety of the House of Orange County - which are really non-profit and really long-term - a year or two - and are very strict. You must take the MMPI (Minnasota Multiphasic Personality Inventory) and go through extensive testing first, but it is free. The other thing is that - and it's really sad - a court ordered drug treatment is usually performed without charge. If that person hits rock bottom and is found in the system, they can be in a better position to help. The family can not save him if he does not help himself. Yes, there is, but there is no national program that sponsors them.

Get parents to Al-Anon. They will meet with parents and family members with the same problem and we can find low-cost alternatives in your area.

If this does not work, go to open AA meeting and ask for help from a sober alcoholic.
