The symptoms of alcohol and signs of alcohol abuse The differance between alcohol abuse and alcoholism is not based on the amount that is drunk, but on the way, the consumption of alcohol affects the drinker's life.
There are seven main signs of alcohol dependence
1) The person develops a tolerance to alcohol. That means drinking more and more feel the same level of intoxication.
2) The person has withdrawal symptoms. This means they feel sick when there is no alcohol in his body. These symptoms include nausea, sweating, tremors, and anxiety.
3) The person often drinks more than he or she had originally planned to drink.
4) The person attempts to reduce or stop drinking, but all attempts to have their own failures and they continue to drink more.
5) A person who spends a lot of time and effort to ensure that he or she can get alcohol.
6) The person provides opportunities for social, recreational and professional because of their consumption.
7) The person continues to drink despite physical and psychological problems because of drinking.
The signs of alcoholism
For diagnostic purposes among professional surveyors, if a person has three of these seven signs, then they are considered dependent on alcohol. There are some other "less formal type signs" that can be used to determine if someone is drinking too much.
1) The person begins to miss work or less successful at work.
2) The person seems angry or sad fate.
3) A person physically hits or family members of abuse.
4) The person emotionally abused members of the family.
5) The person has faults (do not remember what he or she was drunk).
6) The person has a hangover (feels very sick after drinking the day).
Alcoholism doe not go away by itself, so it is extremely important for friends and family members that recognize any combination of these symptoms or signs to encourage people to seek treatment. In the long term alcoholism can cause cirrhosis and liver cancer, heart and nervous system damage, memory loss, impotence and a high risk of over dosing.

People who abuse alcohol may not want to admit they have a problem because they are ashamed or embarrassed or perhaps they are unwilling to change their lifestyle.
Alcoholism can affect anyone and makes no distinction based on race, age or circumstances. It is a treatable disease, but the person who requests a treatment must be willing to forego it altogether. The community supports the treatment of alcoholism in general a zero tolerance approach to comprehensive abstinence-based treatment.
Research has shown that very few alcoholics can simply reduce their drinking and be able to know when they're tired and can not stop. Once tolerance is built, the body needs the feeling of intoxication and the only way to rid the body of these cravings is through total abstinence.
