Fresh Drinking Water

Since there are ways to convert seawater into drinking water, it will not always an answer to our water problem? I understand the problems created by a direct access to the decrease of fresh water and its impact on human life and wild, but developed countries can always create fresh water from the conversion of 'seawater Over time, power and cost required to complete the process will come down too. So am I wrong to see glass half full? Do not most countries in the Middle East already use this method to meet their water needs?
