Cayuga Lake is one of the Five Finger lakes nestled in the center of New York. Its climate is the idea of growing vines. The wineries of the Cayuga Lake area lie 1 hour from Rochester and Syracuse, 2 hours from Buffalo, New York 4 hours 6 hours from Boston and 2 ½ hours of Albany, the state capital. The vineyards are located along the western and eastern sides of the lake with the majority of them on the west bank of the lake. Visitors can also experience Watkins Glen State Park and visit Cornell University, which are near the wineries. scenic waterfalls and magnificent natural wonders and other along the lake create a relaxing atmosphere while traveling along the wine route.

The Cayuga Lake Wine trail is an experience all year, and each season brings a different set of activities and experiences to enjoy tasting the wines and visit some of the old historic towns. Some areas along the trail include the Montezuma Winery, Swedish Hill Vineyard, the Cobblestone Farm Winery & Vineyard, Knapp Winery, Goose Watch Winery, Buttonwood Grove Winery on the Cayuga Ridge Estate Winery, which is thirsty Owl Wine Company, the Hosmer Winery, the Seldrake Point Vineyard, the Lucas Vineyards, Americana Vineyards, Six Mile Creek Vineyard, King Ferry Winery and Long Point Winery.

The wine country in the Cayuga Lake area offers events throughout the year include everything from festivals to special dinners. Most wineries also hold their own events ranging from wine tasting dinner. Almost every month there is a Cayuga Wine Trail event will be a festival, a tour or a celebration. The first event starts in February with the annual Mardi Gras, and ends in December with the annual Holiday Shopping Spree. A wine lover can buy a subscription to these Cayuga Wine Trail events and they are portable if you want to treat a friend or family member.

Watkins Glen, next to Cayuga Lake and the trail just below Seneca Lake, hosts the largest celebration of the wine region with more than 75 wineries. The festival takes place each July and is an ideal place to discover not only the wines Cayuga Lake, but the wines from the rest of the Finger Lakes region as well.

New York wines are quickly becoming the worlds most well know secret when it comes to wines outside of California. Their variety and quality matches that of the most well known wine regions of the country, and the landscape of the Finger Lakes region is not accompanied with other regions.
