The brand Betty White Unless you lived under a rock, you've probably heard that Betty White is scheduled to host Saturday Night Live on May 8 Besides the fact that Betty White (!) Hosting SNL, this would not be a big problem, except that people were practically begging her to do. It even has its own "Betty White will host SNL (please?)!" Page with 499,822 fans. Betty White has what every brand wants: freshness, longevity and almost begging for a piece of it. Thus, it raises the question: What Betty White is entitled to his career, after 71 years in business, it is still a hot product with a generation that could be his grandchildren or great grand- children?
1. It is diverse - it has done all this. From game shows to radio to television series to stage (need I continue?), Betty had her hand in every part of showbiz. It is a risk-taker and never boring to watch. And like a well oiled, she knows and appreciates all aspects of what happens in his work behind the scenes at the front of the camera, and people recognize this ability and experience.
2. But it knows its niche - Betty White said the reason she has maintained its reputation if it is long familiarity. She has been involved in many different projects in more than seven decades, but it has always been the same mild that people have come to know and love. As a brand, it is important to change over time and take risks, but completely change who you are rarely works (New Coke anyone?)
3. It is innovative - Everybody loves a pioneer because they are gutsy and go places we do not dare. Betty White co-founded Bandy Productions in 1952 to produce her own self with the sitcom. This led to his being an old twenty-eight co-creator, producer and star and she became one of only two women on television early to have creative control over the screen and off. Innovation is exciting and everybody wants to be part of what is new. Think in terms of popularity as the iPod, Tickle-Me Elmo and Nintendo Wii first came out. Just be good enough to stick around when the buzz subsides.
4. It is cool - Betty White is a cool old woman. And because it does pigeonhole. Beer table playing with Jimmy Fallon with a Snicker of commercial and make dirty jokes in the award shows, she does not agree with how a 88 year old "supposed" to be. She does what she wants and that's why people love him. Remain faithful to yourself and your brand, you always win fans.
5. It avoids overexposure - There is a real talent to stay fresh, but not overexposed and Betty White appeared to control this. Betty White is still fresh as a daisy 71 long years after she started in show business. The same thing applies to a brand. Everyone knows that a business just a little too much and it sours you to the product, despite how it may be good. Let them know you are there, but does not block your throat or product you are sure of the mode. Quickly.
If brands want to remain golden as Betty White, they would do well to take note of his amazing career and life.
