CLEANING / STERILIZATION / rinse
Any piece of equipment that comes into contact with your beer must be cleaned, sterilized and rinsed.
Cleaning
All equipment must be rinsed thoroughly after cleaning to remove traces of detergent. Traces of detergent in the finished beer will affect the surface tension and cause poor head retention (eg a flat, unattractive pint!).
Sterilization
Your beer will be very susceptible to infection with bacteria or yeasts in the early stages of the brewing process. A sterile environment is necessary to produce a beer tasting clean and healthy. Sterilization of your brewing equipment should be done in preparation time as close as possible.
Bruclean Cleaner / Steriliser 400g
You have been provided with the above sterilization agent. Brupaks Bruclean can be used as a solution hot or cold. For general cleaning, mix 5 to 10 grams per liter of water Bruclean hot or cold.
Rinsing
The importance of rinsing your sterilized brewing equipment can not be emphasized enough. All traces of sterilizing solution finding its way into your beer may give a TCP taste to your beer, in some cases, making your beer undrinkable.
Now that you have cleaned, sterilized and rinsed all your equipment, you're ready to begin brewing.
HOW TO MAKE YOUR BEER KIT
STEP 1
Rehydrate the yeast.
For healthy fermentation it is necessary to re-hydrate your yeast before adding it to the wort (wort is the name given to the beer before fermentation has taken place). You will need 100ml of boiling water and add to a bowl or large glass. Cover with foil or plate has sterilized so allowing the water to cool to about 30-35 degrees Celsius deg. Cut the sachet of dry yeast and sprinkle evenly over the surface of the water. Do not stir or mix. Cover the bowl again and let the yeast rehydrate for 20-30 minutes.
STEP 2
Remove any labels from your beer kit (s) and place in a saucepan of boiling water for 10 minutes to soften the extract. Open the cans using a sterilized can opener and pour into your fermenter. Add about 2 quarts of boiling water to the fermenter. It is advisable to start by filling the boxes in boiling water to rinse any remaining sample, then add it to your fermenter.
STEP 3
Once you add the boiling water in the tank to take your bat and mix the mash to mix with boiling water. Next Top up the fermenter with cold water to the desired level or the level recommended. It is usually 23 liters.
STEP 4
Now, we aerate the wort. Aerating the wort is necessary to introduce oxygen which will help the yeast to get a good start and produce a healthy fermentation which, in turn, produce a great beer. It is recommended that you stir vigorously with a spatula for 5 to 10 minutes.
