In Oregon, a store can refuse to sell alcohol to a person of legal age when a minor is present? I was in a store last night with my husband (who is 21) while trying to buy Budweiser for us to make dog beer for dinner. I'm only 18 and did not know that the store policy, apparently, must verify id of the person who buys alcohol and members with this person. When she asked about it we refused we were together and I paid for other items we buy (potatoes and cinnamon), while he paid for the beer. If we are married, the store can always refuse the sale of alcohol while I am present? Or someone could direct me to a site that can answer my question? (I tried to watch, but failed)
It may be that the policy shops. In fact, see attached
http://www.oregon.gov/OLCC/docs/publicat ...
A parent can actually supplying alcohol to a minor - "A parent or legal guardian may provide alcohol to their children in a private residence."
So I do not know why there would be a law prohibiting the purchase of alcohol from your husband in your presence. Your husband is not supposed to give you all, but thats not the responsibility of the stores to try to enforce.
It is discretionary. The stores have some policies to be followed and guidelines of the State. In California, a minor may be present, but can not carry the bag. In Washington, you are allowed to bring a minor in a liquor store, but obviously they can not buy it. It also has much to do with the person working the register. So in short ... yes and no.
Yes, I understand that is the case in most states today. What I do not think this big deal because there are many instances where children are coming into the store to get what they want it and the adult pays. Believe me, I remember he was doing when I was young! lol
Vendors and sellers have a broad right to refuse to sell.
I would check with the ABC here, but I bet they have pretty much the right to refuse to sell at any time they choose not to.
I think most areas of the reserve companies the right to refuse service to people .... As it is not based solely on "protection" issues like race, sex, creed ....
A shop can refuse to sell anything to anyone for any reason or for no particular reason at all.
I do not see why they should, I mean I Oregon and I was with my older sister (she was 24, I'm 17) when she had a six pack of beer with the groceries.
I've never heard of that!
Wow, this is soooo stupid
So if your purchases with your mom and dad can not buy alcohol when your around
there is something wrong
Yes you can. In fact, in all states. It is at the discretion of the box and store policies.
omg its like THT in WV too!
You miss the whole point.
They are not allowed to sell alcohol to minors, and may lose their license to sell alcohol at all if they appear to have done.
There are people who will get under-age adults to buy alcohol for them.
It stores to avoid selling when there is reason to believe alcohol will be given to minors.
It is up to them to avoid it, but they want to. If the clerk has no reason to think the beer is a minor, then they have the right not to sell in this case.
You will not find what you're looking for, because it does not.
