Alcohol Countermeasure Systems

Alcohol Countermeasure SystemsSome disturbing information on drink driving

An article entitled "Drunk Driving" was featured on the "Insurance Information Institute" website in February 2007. Forgive the pun, but the following three facts statistics that have been discussed in this article are quite "thinking .

Number of deaths related to alcohol

Firstly, despite the increasing number of anti-drunk driving laws and campaigns, the number of people who died in accidents related to alcohol decreased by only 2% of 2004 in 2005 (16.919 in 2004 against 16,885 in 2005). While every life saved is important, this decrease, from a statistical standpoint, however, was not significant. In other words, the fact that 34 people were killed in less accidents involving alcohol in 2005 than in 2004 would have happened quite by chance, rather than because of stricter driving laws drunk or because of the influence of citizen activist groups such as Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).

Repeat DUI offenders

Second, even with the adoption of stricter DUI laws and consequences, over 50% of U.S. drivers arrested for driving while intoxicated are repeat offenders. This statistic is disturbing when viewed on its own merits. What has also become "interesting", however, is the number of repeat offenders who have received a number of scandalous Duis.

For example, in early 2006, a man from Ohio who received 12 Duis within ten years time killed two Hiram students in an alcohol-related accident. Not surprisingly, many people in the local community were outraged by the driver who accidentally killed two college students.

What was perhaps most revealing in this case, however, was the number of telephone calls to radio shows by people who ask judges and prosecutors were and what were the consequences for the driver after receiving his 3rd, his 8th and his 11th Duis. In other words, people from asking questions "difficult" regarding the responsibility of those who received multiple Duis well as the accountability of judges and prosecutors who participated in the work of repeat offenders' legal.

Many drivers with suspended licenses continue to drive

Thirdly, 67% of U.S. drivers with suspended licenses still drive. From the logical point of view, many people are asking how this is possible in an era of technological progress which offers features such as "access to a computer in real time driver registration information that is available to the enforcement community.

Drunk Driving cons-measures

According to the authors of "Drunk Driving", a number of cons-measures have been taken which have targeted alcohol-related deaths on U.S. roads. For example, existing laws drunk driving have become more strict, new laws were passed, drunk driving task forces were established by many states, and activist groups like MADD citizens have influenced some of attitudes toward drinking and driving in our society.

As noted that these laws against drinking and driving campaigns were, however, the fact remains that less than 34 people died in alcohol-related accidents in 2005 than in 2004. Clearly, other measures must be taken to significantly reduce the number of people in the United States who die in traffic accidents related to alcohol.

Other initiatives led anti-alcohol

In response to the need for more ammunition in the "war on traffic accidents related to alcohol, I suggest two other anti-drunk driving initiatives. Firstly, those who are incarcerated for offenses related to alcohol should receive compulsory treatment, while the alcohol, they are in prison or jail. While other drivers are safer when people complained of were "street" and imprisoned. When the prison or taken.
