1968 WineMaking history of wine in the Napa Valley

For the first inhabitants of the valley, "Indian Wappo, the word" Napa "meant the land of many, evoking images of a vast sprawling territory that was home to salmon rivers filled funds, green valley with multitudes of wild cats, black bears, grizzly bears and elk. George Calvert Yount was the first to establish a local farm with vineyards in what is now known as Yountville. Some of the other early settlers include John Patchett, Hamilton Walker Crabb and Dr. George Crane.

Charles Krug can be called the founder of the Napa Valley, as he has been responsible for developing the first commercial vineyard in the region in 1861. Wineries like Schramsberg, Beringer and fireplace, now is the best, most popular and oldest vineyards in the region have all been put in place along 140 other wineries by the year 1889. Then the worst came to the vine. Phylloxera, an epidemic has struck the vineyards, destroying most of the crops of the valley. This is just one of the obstacles the cellars of today have to deal.

In 1919, the Napa Valley had another enemy in the form of "prohibition". Most of the vineyards and wineries have closed, except those producing holy wine used by the churches. The Act on the Prohibition lasted more than 14 years later, during the time of World War II, these winemakers in the Valley laid the foundation of the Napa Valley Vintners an organization created to improve the quality of wine and promote all things related to wine.

The 1950s and 1960s saw the growth and recognition of the Napa Valley is social circles where wine was the most consumed and most of the talking. This decade or two has seen the birth of a new generation of grape growers and winemakers. The 1970s brought with them a plethora of wine-making innovations and creativity that has enabled Valley wines to win a competitive international wine tasting in Paris, who literally put the Napa Valley and its cabernets at par with the French Bordeaux. The organization Napa Valley has not only ensured that great wine is produced, but it has also contributed to the creation of leaders who will help the wine industry in California the best it is today.

In 1968, agriculture to preserve the order was formed and helped to ensure the well-being of local vintners and the development of the Napa Valley by organizing auctions and raise millions dollars. The year 1982 was a historic year for the valley where he was appointed the highly acclaimed American Vitcultural area. Napa Valley has been known as a place of multifaceted topography, bedrock-bound, surface geology and a place having a large variety of soils make the valley ideal for the cultivation and winemaking, and is one of the most popular wine regions of the world.

Home to more than 300 wineries, Napa Valley has been recognized as a wine producing region leading everywhere. You can go on visits to wineries where you can get to visit the oldest vineyards and charming places in the region and the world. Now, the valley attracts millions of tourists and wine lovers from around the world where, as in years past, it was just a space occupied by the sprawling Wappo Indian tribe.
